I hope it's okay making a new topic for this. If not, I apologize.

Anyway, I was trying to think of ways the Grappling Beam could be upgraded and I have a couple ideas.

Probably the most obvious would be to make the reach of the Grappling Beam longer a la the Long Shot from Ocarina of Time.

Another possible upgrade could make the Grappling Beam actually damage enemies, turning it into a weapon unto itself, much like it was in Super Metroid. This would probably make those that want duel wielding happy...

Anyone have any other ideas how it could be upgraded?

Possibly draining the enemies health. Or maybe "grabbing" the enemy so you can throw them across the room or into other enemies =D

OMG, what happened to Spino88's post? Laughing

Anyway, I think the Grapple Beam should have energy draining abilities like the Shock Coil.

Probably not going to happen. It's just too cheap in single player. You find a boss, then suck him dry. If they include that, I'm going to eat my own pants in hellish fury. I realize in Hunters they did it, but all the weapons were balanced in that. In this, if you run into a Space Pirate, you can just steal his energy. The only way this would possibly happen is if they increased the difficulty, but Nintendo already said this was going to be easier than Echoes.

To paraphrase, I really hate the idea.

Hm, seems that they said in an interview that ZS Samus's whip in SSBM is actually a modified grapple beam...

...and this game modifies the grapple beam in many ways....

So I'm hoping for a toggle between grabbing mode and whip mode Very Happy

Odd

When did this happen? Overall I found MP2 to be easier than MP1 (even if you include the Spider Guardian fight on hard mode). Why would they continue to dumb down the series?

MP2 was considerably harder than MP1. You probably didn't notice if you played MP1 first because you weren't used to it. The dark atmosphere, the damage, the bosses, the puzzles, all got harder on MP2. It was said to be as difficult as hard mode on MP1. And you can't use Spider Guardian as backup there, he was as easy as the Flagghra(sp?) from MP1 Razz

Echoes was certainly harder, but I thought that was one of the reasons it was better. And it wasn't murderously hard, either; it was challenging.

Games are just getting too easy these days. Gamers are losing their hardcoreness and need their hand held all the time. See Fusion, and Zero Mission, which tells you precisely where to go. At least in the Prime games you can deactivate the hint system.
